Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ800U 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ800U 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV I ordered this product through Amazon.com on the 18th of August. It was shipped on the 19th with an August 26th estimated delivery date. I was more than surprised to find that this product was actually to be delivered on the 23rd, and on a Saturday to boot.

First off– the picture is beyond comparison for what I spent for this model. The unit does not give off much heat (as long as you are not in a closed room with no air circulation); as the addition of four low rpm exhaust fans on the top of the plasma keep it cool without additional noise.

Secondly– I would highly recommend the use of blue ray discs through an additional PS3. The smooth scaling from the PlayStation to the plasma is just phenomenal! I did my research on many brands of plasma hd tvs, and I have to honestly say that this is a purchase I won’t regret. In addition, with a unit running this cool, and with an estimated 11 year 24/7 365 days/yr running time until the TV loses half its brightness, I believe I won’t have trouble finding a buyer for this unit if I ever choose to upgrade.

Lastly– This unit can easily detect any HDMI device and conform to its specifications in short time. I find it easy to switch display and audio from my PS3 to my laptop and not lose a second in between.
I highly recommend this product, and duly urge any potential consumer to do their due diligence before any product purchase. If this model is your choice, utilize Amazon.com and not a local brick and mortar store. The free shipping saves you gas, and the ‘white glove’ service will both setup and verify your plasma’s integrity.

Best of luck in your quest for an ideal plasma 1080P TV!

Panasonic TC-32LX85 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Panasonic TC-32LX85 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV I was looking for a new bedroom TV and decided on a 32" LCD. As I already own a 42" Toshiba Regza for the Living Room, I wasn’t all that worried about having 1080p for the bedroom model.

I shopped around for this one a lot and could not decide between Sony, Samsung or Panasonic. After 2 trips to Best Buy, I decided the Samsung probably had a bit more vivid color and a swivel base. I ended up purchasing the Panasonic, however because the Samsung seemed to be less "solid" in construction and the Sony was about $100 more with what appeared to be a worse picture quality.

I’ve had the TV for a little over a month and it has been flawless. I actually think it has a better picture than my 42" Toshiba. It was very easy to setup, pulled it out of the box, plugged it in and went through a very user friendly setup. I like how the speaker is hidden, and is of surprisingly good sound for an LCD.

My only potential complaint is if I ever decided to mount it on the wall, the base is pretty weird in pulling off, which requires you to tip the screen on it’s side.

Panasonic Viera TH-50PZ800U 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV The battle wages on between LCD and Plasma, but I know I chose correctly when I picked up this television. I have had it now for over a month and I still am as mezmerized as I was on day one. The colors and picture quality are absolutely brilliant. I have a friend that has a 1080p LCD TV and it does not hold a candle to the overall picture quality of this plasma. Again, the one drawback to a plasma screen TV is that it has a glass front, so if you are planning on having this in a room with lots of light and window, reflections will be a problem, and you might choose an LCD. But if you have a TV area like mine, hands down this is the best value and quality. 3 HDMI inputs (2 back, 1 front), 2 component inputs (1 back, 1 front) and your regular cable and composite hook ups available on back as well. The menues are easy to navagate, and the remote is user friendly. This also has an SD card slot that can handle the SDHC cards up to 16gb so you can display your digital photos. The only thing I wish the TV did was on the picture slideshow it allowed you to play music (mp3 files) during the display like some photo frames. Oh well, my pictures look excellent. Finally, my blu-ray movies and my HD-DVD movies are spectacular on this TV. Look around, but you will come back to see that this TV is a best value hands down.

Toshiba REGZA 37RV530U 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV

Toshiba REGZA 37RV530U 37-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV This is the best 37" LCD in the market hands down! The picture is bright and vibrant, the sound is crisp and clear. The unit swivels and the menu is user friendly. It picks up an incredible amount of digital channels. Ideal for sports of all kinds. The remote it came with it’s buttons glow in the dark. When changing channels it gives you a signal strength for a brief second which tells you what kind of reception it will give you on any given channel. I did notice low signal strength gives a grainy picture. But this has nothing to do with the quality of the unit. Built solid with real screws and only weighs 40 lbs. If you get a chance to purchase one. I definitely recomend this puppy. PIP would make this an awsome unit. But i cant complain with the workmanship and quality. Toshiba has gone out of its way to make this 37" LCD Tv very enjoyable… thank you…

Toshiba 32AV500U 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

Toshiba 32AV500U 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV I’ve had this TV for about a month now. I watched the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup in HD a few weeks ago, and it was probably the sharpest sports broadcast I’ve ever seen. Colors look great and the blacks are pretty close. The built-in speakers are acceptable compared to some other off-brand 32" models, and are not too tinny or fake. The warm-up takes 5-7 seconds and the lag between channels is about a second. I have analog cable tv so this may vary with your results.

The only problem I’ve had with this is the VGA input from a computer. Depending on your use, this could be a big trade off. I have a Sony SZ laptop, one of the best ones they make. If I input the signal from the Sony, I can see a square develop in the upper-right corner of the tv that’s about 7 inches wide and 4-5 inches high, which will disappear after a few seconds. This happens frequently if I play an AVI movie fullscreen, but if I burn that movie to a disc and play it on my Philips DVD player through the composite inputs, it looks fine with no squaring. It should be noted that I played ‘Gears of War’ (PC game) and it didn’t exhibit this problem. I also see it if I scroll vertically through a webpage quickly, but only for a split second.

In summary, I’d give this Toshiba 3.5 stars overall, and round up to 4. I really don’t watch much tv which will probably be its intended use among purchasers here. The VGA problem is extremely annoying, but I mostly use it for stock trading/reading articles on the internet. Also I plan on giving the tv away to a relative when I leave the US later next year, so no big loss. But if I had to do it over again, I’d probably pay a little more and get the 32" Samsung. I did a search and found two other people with this same problem, so I don’t think it’s an issue with my PC or its configuration. If I had an HDMI or S-Video output on my laptop (I don’t), I could try those instead.

Toshiba REGZA 42RV530U 42-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV I bought mine more than a year and a half ago, have had ANY problem with that given the fact that all its functions are used quite extensively. By the way i bought it from buydig.com; they have very good prices on most, not all, electronics and it arrived safe to me. they even put it into 2 boxes.

Toshiba Cinema Series 52LX177 52-inch 1080p LCD HDTV

My wife and I couldn’t be happier with our purchase. This 52LX177 has a commendable picture quality, and makes our older 27" flat screen TV look outdated. We appreciate the ‘no reflection’ properties of LCD Screen - our well lit aquarium and open blinds in the background do not reflect off the TV - infact you forget they’re even there! I have heard of inherent `blurring’ with LCDs, but when comparing this with my brother-in-law’s 42" Plasma I didn’t see any unusual blurring on this set - I believe the minimal blurring I saw on selected programs was in the source rather than the TV. One thing I’m still trying to figure out is the difference between 120hz and 60hz - so far they both seem the same even in fast moving action scenes, although I’m sure there is some inherent advantage in 120hz that I haven’t noticed yet. The viewing angle is great.. even if I stand adjacent to the set, every bit of the program is as clear as when seen from front of the TV! Now I can’t wait to get a Blue Ray player once those come down to an affordable price, so I can enjoy movies in 1080p! I would recommend this TV to anyone.

The toshiba is an excellent stanard definition tv,offering good picture and sound at a budget price.Since Flat panels are in vogue, this is a good time to pick up one of these closeout models from Toshiba. The tv is big and heavy, but you get tried and true technology.I own this set as well as an hd sony and i really enjoy watching this tv…I would buy this locally as many customers who purchased tvs online through amazon have had ship damage problems, including myself.Thank you for reading my review.

There was a lot said about this TV’s picture quality and all this is true. The picture quality of this TV is very good. HD and Analog.
The problem I have is a menu system. There are some menu items that are not thought through well.
For example:
1. A simple task of manually adding and removing channels will become a 30 min frustrations. The problem is that you can not remove certain channel while being tuned to it, you have to through 10 button clicks to get to the list of all channels where there is no preview, just a list of numbers and the check boxes. In that list you have to remember by number what channel you want to keep and which one to remove. Also, good luck, scrolling to the end of the list. There is no page scrolling, so you’ll have to go one by one all the way down if you need to remove, for example, channel 160.
2. Pushing "picture size" button shows you the list of available sizes, and TV picture changes size as you go through them, the problem is the list of available sizes shown in the middle of the screen and takes 70% of screen size, so you can even see the effect.
3. and so on….

Toshiba REGZA 46RF350U Super Narrow 46-inch 1080p LCD HDTV

I must admit up front that I have a special affinity for Toshiba. My first stereo/cd component system, widescreen TV and personal laptop, all were from Toshiba.

With that in mind I still looked at multiple sets from Sony Bravia XBR KDL-46XBR4 46" 1080p LCD HDTV, Samsung LNT4671F 46" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV and the HP SL4778N 47" 1080p MediaSmart LCD HDTV. Putting cost aside for now, according to numerous forums all the sets have their pluses and minuses. The Sony produces a great picture and I love their remotes and the Samsung’s look incredible as well. I never got an in-person look at the HP’s, but I really like the Internet and multimedia features, however I can get most of these from my XBox and PS3. The 2 things that really solidified my decision to go with the Toshiba was the aesthetics, the thin bezel really looks like the picture is just hovering in mid-air. Also, my previous experience with other Toshiba electronics.

I’ve had the TV for over two weeks now and continue to play with all the settings. It has ample inputs, 3 HDMI, 2 components and the PC input(DB15), plus 2 or three composite and s-video connections. There is also the optical audio out to connect to your receiver. The one input missing that I would have liked and is on my 51HX93 is a 2nd coaxial input for connecting an antenna for over-the-air HD. You can connect an antenna or cable to the existing coaxial input but it is nice having a separate one just for the antenna. Also, there is no POP (a version of PIP) that is on my 51HX93 - they never claimed the set had it, I just hoped it was an undocumented feature. Granted I don’t use the POP a great deal, but it is also nice to have and is the only down side I have found so far with the set. You need to step up to the LX series to get the POP. As far as the HDMI inputs, I also bought the Onkyo TX-SR705 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black) the same day. The CEC link that HDMI allows works great between the Toshiba TV and the Onkyo. I can control my input selection from my TV for everything connected to the Onkyo. It shows up in a side or sub list of the HDMI port that the Onkyo is connected to.

I was surprised how great the picture looks straight out of the box. I just lowered the contrast and DynaLight some (get it out of torch mode) and didn’t really need to adjust anything else for the picture to be enjoyable. There are however an abundance of settings and color controls you can make to get the picture just the way you prefer. Each input will retain different settings so you don’t have to keep making adjustments every time you switch inputs. For some though the amount of adjustments and settings you can make may be overwhelming, but you don’t have to use most of them in order to get a great picture. But play around with them enough and you should be able to get a perfect picture or pretty close.

I did consider waiting for this years (2008) new line-up of sets to come out instead of getting a 2007 model, but I am glad I didn’t wait. The biggest concern or issue I was worried about was the 120hz functionality that is becoming standard in new LCD sets. However, I have not noticed any issues, no blurring or anything that the 120hz would help. I know there are mathematical reasons that the different frame rates effect the picture, but so far in real world use, I don’t miss it. Hopefully I won’t change my mind once NASCAR, MLB and college football get going again. So far watching the Australian Open and several fast paced action movies (on both a Toshiba HD-A35 1080p HD DVD Player and a Sony BDP-S300 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player), the set has performed beautifully.

I plan on buying the Toshiba REGZA 40RF350U Super Narrow 40" 1080p LCD HDTV model for my Mom’s birthday to bring her into the digital and HD age and that’s the best compliment I can think to give this TV. I have no regrets with this purchase and what’s more adding the Onkyo either the TX-SR705 or the TX-SR605 or higher is a near perfect marriage of components. The CEC functionality is great - of course this may be the same for all HDMI CEC components, but the Onkyo manual mentions Toshiba and Panasonic TV’s specifically.

The 46" comes with the stand attached and I set it up that way and don’t plan on wall-mounting it so I can’t speak to that, but the set is a bit thicker than others the same size, but that has no effect on me. The view from the front is what matters to me and the 46" screen and thin bezel make the perfect picture. Just for reference I have connected via HDMI a Xbox 360 Elite, PlayStation 3 and a DVD recorder, all to the Onkyo and then the Onkyo to the TV. My HD cable DVR is connected via component to the Onkyo which sends all video over the HDMI to the TV. All the images look great and I have also tried connecting them directly to the TV’s HDMI but they looked just as good through the Onkyo.

Update: I’ve added/swapped an old cable box for a new one from Charter that has HDMI out. Of course the cable is not 1080p, but having one cable instead of several to get the video and audio is nice. Anyway the picture continues to look great. I still have no regrets or 2nd thoughts about this TV and plan on buying the 40" version this next week as a gift.
